How to Tie a Constrictor Knot

How to Tie a Constrictor Knot: "

The constrictor is an extension of a clove hitch. Its usage is similar to a clove hitch, except that the knot is considered to be more permanent. As its name suggests, this knot has the ability to tighten itself around an object and does not become loose.

Steps

  1. A Clove Hitch

    Tie a clove hitch.

  2. Tuck the working end under the rope in the clove hitch as shown.

  3. Finish up. You have a constrictor; just pull tight both ends and the knot will be firmly in place.

Alternate Method

The constrictor knot can also be quickly tied around the end of an object without using the end of the rope.

  1. Make wide loop in the rope.

  2. Twist the lower side of the loop down over the top of the knot to form two loops.

  3. Slide the object though the loops.

  4. Finish up. You have a constrictor; just pull tight both ends and the knot will be firmly in place.

Tips

  • There is a good chance you may not be able to undo this knot, so be prepared to cut the rope if you need to remove it.
  • The kind of rope you use affects the constricting ability of the knot. If you are a tying the knot to a hard object, use a rope that stretches to get the constricting effect.

Things You'll Need

  • Rope
  • A pole to tie around
