Vegetable Sevai

Vegetable Sevai: "

Vegetable Rice Sevai
Vegetable Sevai makes for a light, filling and quick-fix breakfast meal. Prepared pretty much the way one would prepare vermicelli/semiya. Adding vegetables of your choice makes it substantial while tofu/paneer adds a dose of protein. Sevai are a type of rice noodles popular in South India especially Tamil Nadu and Sevai preparations include coconut, lemon and tomato.
Vegetable Sevai Recipe
Prep & Cooking Time: 20 mts
Serves 4 persons
Cuisine: South Indian
.
Ingredients:
2 cups instant rice sevai (I used MTR brand)
1 finely sliced large onion
3-4 slit green chillis
1″ ginger finely chopped
pinch of asafoetida/hing/inguva
1 tomato, chopped
1 1/2 cups diced and parboiled mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, green peas)
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves (optional)
1/2 tbsp oil
1 tsp ghee (optional)
salt
For seasoning:
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tbsp split black gram
1/2″ cinnamon stick (optional)
12-15 curry leaves
1 Boil 4 cups of water and add the rice sevai along with 1/4 tsp salt and 1 tsp oil. Once the sevai is cooked (it should be just soft and not mushy), turn off heat, pour into a colander to drain completely and and keep aside. The sevai cooks fast so watch out while its boiling.
2 Heat oil and ghee in a cooking vessel, add the mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add the black gram and curry leaves and saute them till the dal turns slightly brown and a nice aroma emanates the kitchen. Add the asafoetida and mix.
3 Add the sliced onions, green chillis and ginger and saute for 4 mts. Add the parboiled vegetables and green peas. Cook for 4 mts.
4 Add the chopped tomatoes and saute on medium heat for 4 mts.
5 Now, add the cooked sevai and and mix it lightly and see that no lumps form. Garnish with coriander leaves. Turn off heat.
6 Serve hot with chutney or pickle of your choice.
Note:
For variation, garnish with grated coconut. You can added roasted cashews too.

Tomato Cheese Salad

Tomato Cheese Salad: "

Tomato Cheese Salad
Summer is in full swing. Going the salad way is becoming a regular routine at home. We had an abundant harvest of tomatoes this year. Tomato pickle was prepared last week. Today, I prepared an easy, breezy, cheesy, super simple tomato salad using little cubes of cheese and cucumber. Variations can include paneer, tofu or cheese of your choice. Loved the combination and the addition of cheese enticed my 8 year old as well as the boiled egg quarters you see in the plate. He loves eggs. :)
De-seed 2 large tomatoes and dice. Peel and dice 2 cucumbers. Cut a cheese cube into small pieces. In a bowl, whisk 1 1/2 tbsps olive oil, a large pinch of powdered sugar, crushed pepper, pinch of salt and a tbsp of chopped coriander leaves or mint leaves. Add the diced tomatoes, cucumber and cheese to the bowl and mix well. Chill and serve.

How to Cash Savings Bonds in an Emergency

hai frds

How to Cash Savings Bonds in an Emergency: "

You can purchase United States Government savings bonds for half the price of their face value. Although you can cash your savings bonds at any time to receive the interest earned to date, you must hold the bonds to maturity for them to be worth their full value or more.
Savings bonds seem safe because they will never go down in face value, but you can lose money on savings bonds, as the dollar loses value through inflation. Nonetheless, they are commonly viewed as long-term savings or rainy day money in the event of an emergency, in part because they are easy to cash in.

Steps

  1. Check the value of your bonds. You can do this using the calculator at the U.S. Treasury's website, TreasuryDirect.gov. Use the following method to check:
    • Have your bonds handy when you go to the website.
    • Select the series and denomination of your savings bond from the designated drop-down menus.
    • Enter the issue date of the bond in the appropriate field and click 'Calculate.'
    • The following page will show you the current value of the bond. Change the date field to see what that same bond would be worth if you cashed it in at a later date.
  2. Cash in savings bonds that have already matured before any others.
    • Matured bonds have reached their maximum value and are no longer earning interest. The amount of time it takes for a bond to reach maturity is based on the bonds' series, but most bonds have a base maturity period of 20 years.
    • Series EE bonds, from the 1980s and 1990s, have an extended maturity of 10 years beyond the 20-year base. These savings bonds accrue interest for a total of 30 years, and so have the potential to be worth more than their face value.
  3. Compare the particulars of the rest of your savings bonds if you don't have enough money in matured bonds and you need to sell bonds that haven't matured.
    • Start with the oldest bond first; in most cases the earliest savings bond will be closest to maturity, unless your bonds are from multiple series.
    • Check the interest rates each bond is earning–the rate of the interest was determined at the time you purchased the bond. The easiest way to find out the rate is to use the calculator on the U.S. Treasury's website.
  4. Determine how many bonds you must sell to cover your emergency expenditures. Consider selling a little bit more than you think you need to cover unforeseen costs.
  5. Call your bank or credit union and ask if they cash savings bonds. In most cases, they offer the service only for account holders.
  6. Mail the savings bonds to the federal government if you can't find a banking institution to cash them locally.
    • The U.S. Treasury's website has details and instructions on mailing the saving bonds to the government for redemption. There are several Treasury Retail Securities offices, and the one you should contact depends on where you live.
    • Obtain a PD F 5179-1 form from the Treasury. Fill out the form and have your signature certified by a notary public. Most banks provide notary services for members. If not, check your local directory for notary republics in your area.
    • Mail the form, along with the bonds you wish to sell, to the government via certified mail so you have tracking services and proof of delivery.
    • The Treasury Department will send you a check for the value of the bonds you sold.
  7. Sell your bonds online at the Treasury's website if they qualify. You are allowed to convert some bonds paper to electronic form and sell them online, without having to mail in the physical copies. Check the website to see if your bonds meet the requirements.

Tips

  • The Treasury Department calculates interest on bonds every six months. If possible, time the sale of the bond to just after one of these periods. Selling the bond prematurely could cost you up to six months of lost interest.

Warnings

  • You'll owe federal tax on the interest you earned from the savings bonds the year you sell them. If possible, avoid selling too many bonds in the same year if doing so pushes you into a higher tax bracket.

Things You'll Need

How to Make Clear Tape in Photoshop: "
Here's how you can use your digital tape.
Here's how you can use your digital tape.
Have you ever wondered how digi-scrapbookers are able to make their incredibly life-like embellishments? If you'd like to attempt this too, a perfect way to start is with the clever digital scrapbooking feature of making realistic tape corners in Photoshop. Tape corners are ideal for use in your digital scraps or collages, and this article explains how to create this cool effect.

Steps

  1. Open a new file from 500px on 300px on a white background.
  2. Open a new layer. If your layers panel isn't visible, go to Windows and click on layers, or press F7.

  3. Go to the toolbar and choose the Rectangle Marquee Tool. Make a selection in the new layer; the size of the selection doesn't really matter, but if it's big, it's easier to work on and you can always make it smaller or bigger as needed in your projects. Press CTRL+T to remove the selection.

  4. Fill the selection with the Paint bucket tool. You can choose your own color; in this tutorial we are using a light gray.

  5. Click on the Polygonal Lasso Tool in the toolbar. Use this to create jagged edges on the end of the tape.Once you've finished, press backspace or hit delete so that the selection will be removed; do this on the other side too.

  6. Use the Burn and Dodge tool to add some realism to the tape. This step is optional but it gives a more realistic look to it. Slide the transparency on the layer about 25%. Add a drop shadow to give the tape some depth.

  7. Go to File and click on Save for Web & Devices and choose for PNG or GIF. These options will keep the transparency on your tape.

Your finished work could look something like this.

Proud to be Human - 50 Years of Space Flight: "

Well I am, all the achievements we had had since eternity, the process of evolving from a stone age barbaric to technically advanced, scientifically sane group of societies is amazing.
Today we should congratulate ourselves for one such occasion which can be considered as one of the greatest Landmark of entire human existance.
Today marks the 50th anniversary of Human Spaceflight.
On 12th April, 1961, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space, making a 108-minute orbital flight in his Vostok 1 spacecraft.
Gagarin was the first human to enter outer space and see what no one else had ever witnessed – our commonly shared Earth as a planet and beautiful blue globe with no borders.
Lets commemorate this day as when we humans, escaped the constrains that held us firmly on this planet so long.
